National Survey Spotlights Popularity of Pearls on Everyone’s Holiday Wish List

New York, NYNovember 13, 2006 - It's that time of year again, time to start thinking about family gatherings, holiday parties, and…shopping. As quickly as you can say “ho ho ho,” the holiday season is upon us, and that means a serious countdown for how many shopping days we have left.

A new survey conducted by leading jewelry provider AmericanPearl.com supports a notable fashion trend in the revival of pearls. They’re draped around the necks of models, celebrities, socialites, mothers, daughters and brides. It appears that pearls are definitely everywhere, making a huge fashion comeback. Once considered the most traditional piece with the more regal and established women of “society,” pearl jewelry has now become a staple among teenage girls, younger children, and even babies. According to the newly released survey, men are also beginning to sport pearls, specifically Black Tahitian South Sea pearl cufflinks typically worn at weddings and black-tie events for the first time in memory.

In the survey, 71 percent of adults agreed: “Anyone can wear pearls!” This news is just in time for gift giving as shoppers are seeking that one unique item for a special someone that is so hard to shop for. And not just the traditional single strand of white pearls (picture Audrey Hepburn wearing the black column dress while draped in pearls featured in the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s), designers have created non-traditional pearl jewelry to meet the demand. For example, everything from White Australian South Sea and Black Tahitian South Sea to Japanese Akoya Cultured, Freshwater and Keshi as well as multicolored pearls, which are all widely available. Even engagement rings with prominent pearl settings are a popular choice among trendsetting brides-to-be.

AmericanPearl.com, aided by online survey found that over 55 percent of those surveyed felt pearls were an “appropriate gift for weddings, engagements and anniversaries,” while 44 percent concluded that pearls would be the perfect “gift for any occasion.” The survey was conducted via online questionnaires to nearly one hundred respondents.
